A New Beginning in 2014

2013 has gone forever, tucked away somewhere in the ancient archives of history along with the good bits and bad bits of our lives.  Yes it's true, 2013 is just a memory now and we have to remember to click on the number four  instead of the number three when we type the date.

2014 brings twelve brand new months for us to live in, a new beginning, a fresh start, just wonderful. But wait, first we have to get through the most depressing month of the year, January.

Let's take a quick look at why January is such a depressing month.

The timing is bad isn't it?  A week after Christmas!  Oh dear, nothing we can do about that one.

January is the beginning of a new year and many people around the world pin all their dreams, and hopes for the future on the toll of a midnight bell. Even those people who don't believe in magic and miracles somehow believe that at the sound of the New Year bell their lives will change.  It's called Hope and there is nothing wrong with that, but it might be a good idea not to expect things to happen straight away. It can be quite disappointing if, by the end of January, everything in our lives remains the same.

Returning to work after the celebrations can be a bit of a let down, every work day in January can feel like a Monday.  This could be the reason that customer service people sigh a lot on the phone during January, bless them.

Apart from the obvious weather causing depression, the January pay day always seems a long way off, and the month tends to go in very slowly.

Not to worry, January only lasts for 31 days and then February comes strolling in and we can enjoy our plans for a new beginning. If, we can remember what they were after all that went on in January!

Happy New Year

We know that if we want changes to happen in our lives we are the only ones who can make them happen. We don't need to wait for the sound of the New Year bell to make a fresh start. Every morning we wake up to a brand new day and a brand new beginning.  Yesterday has joined the ancient archives of history but tomorrow is a blank space waiting to be lived in.

Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life and the wonderful, many new beginnings that await you in 2014.        Jeanie McBain
